Wool is about texture. Our textiles are about an experience; they should take you somewhere… or else you should take them…
This collection, Islands, takes us to the shores, where grey seals and sea urchins live in harmony with the salty water. Benefits of salt water and sea air are many, but are best enjoyed when we have something warm to embrace afterwards. The rush of the cold, followed by the warmth of a Shear Rock throw; it will protect the wearer giving them a wooly skin. Sheep produce lanolin naturally, which gives their wool a natural oiling, helping keep their coats waterproof. Seals have similar oil which they produce naturally in their fur, to help keep them waterproof.
‘Islands’ is made from undyed yarns, and showcases natural colours and textures, a calling from the many places the company sources wool from.
Available in two creatures:
Grey seal: Featuring decorative mohair. 100% wool; 85% mohair, 9% wool. At just over 2m long, the length of our grey seal throw competes with the length of a female western Atlantic seal. Female grey seals in the western Atlantic populations can reach 2.05m long; males might reach 2.7m. Eastern Atlantic seals are a little smaller, the females and males at 1.95 and 2.3m respectively.
White sea urchin: 100% wool. Herringbone weave. Cheviot and Hebridean. The white sea urchin’s spines grow to between 1 and 2cm long. The white diagonal lines in our throws are a little longer; 3cm. Some sea urchin spines can be much longer, even up to 30cm.
